Nafplio is a heritage protected, beautiful, seaside town. A wonderful mix of Greek, Venetian and Turkish architecture, it is the most popular weekend retreat, near Athens. It was the first capital of the Greek state during the war of independence. Its port is lined with stunning neoclassical buildings and amazing Italian-style squares hidden behind them. The imposing Palamidi Venetian fortress stands above the town in a 999 –step climb and it is definitely worth to climb it for the view over the Gulf of Argos. It is a charming place to visit, with many attractions, coffee shops and restaurants, two more fortresses and great ice-cream!
