It is this time of the year, the last month of spring, when North California Greeks and San Francisco locals are eager to gather in the Delancey to catch –up with the latest Greek film productions and discover new talents, who are either Greek or are of Greek descent.

San Francisco Greek Film Festival runs for eleven consecutive years with great success.

San Francisco Greek Film Festival runs for eleven consecutive years with great success. It marks a gathering for the Greek community of North california and an important international venue for Greek filmmakers. The Festival is way more than a festivity, it is a program of the Modern Greek Studies Foundation, and all proceeds benefit the educational initiatives of the Center for Modern Greek Studies and the Nikos Kazantzakis Chair at San Francisco State University.

This year’s program has something for everyone’s taste. For the first time, there will also be an extra day of screenings, on Saturday 9th May, entitled ‘Short Film Blast’, where the films to be shown will be exclusively shorts. Moreover, the matinee slot on Sunday 17th May is dedicated to the younger members of the audience, as it consists of a children’s program.

Xenia by Panos Koutras, The Enemy Within by Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, Little England by Pantelis Voulgaris and A Family Affair by Angeliki Aristomenopoulou are the festival highlights.

The rest of the festival will include, amongst others, award winning films, such as Xenia by Panos Koutras, The Enemy Within by Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, Little England by Pantelis Voulgaris and A Family Affair by Angeliki Aristomenopoulou. GreekTV has to propose among others to have a look at the documentary “Lela Karayannis: The Fragrance of a Heroine” by Vassilis Loules, to shorts “Dead End” by Tonia Mishiali and “Eviva” by Dimitris Nakos

A number of the showcased filmmakers will be attending the screenings and talk to the audience about their work. Finally, the festival will award the People’s Choice Award, the Astron Award, at the end of the week, to the director whose film gets the most votes by festiva lgoers. Awards will be given in both the short and feature film categories.

The festivities will kick off with a fundraising reception on Friday 8th May at the Kokkari Estiatorio, where guests will have the opportunity to meet and converse with the visiting artists. There will also be an opening night reception on Monday 11th May and closing night reception on Sunday 17th May, which will take place immediately following the first and last night’s films respectively, complete with authentic Greek appetizers, drinks and music at the Delancey Street Screening Room.

Don’t miss it!
